Letter to you | March 2024
Hi there, I hope this finds you well.
I celebrated my birthday this month. The day of my birthday was very rainy and foggy—in a beautiful way. I didn't make a reservation for dinner, but the server was kind enough to find me a spot. The bread was fantastic, but I was sad they didn't have their special tiramisu.
It was a good reading month - finished Kaddish for an Unborn Child by Imre Kertész and Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. I loved Invisible Cities and will probably reread it in the future. Kaddish for an Unborn Child was a difficult read for me with a lot of stream of consciousness of the author. What was said about work struck me:
...but because if I were not working I would be existing, and if I were existing I don't know what that would drive me to...
Work is a distraction—a distraction from the pain of existence. However, he later points out that pain is the "most authentic aspect of life." What else are we using as a distraction?
I finished a knitting project (that was supposed to be finished by Christmas time last year...). It has been a long time since I've completed a knitting project - I think my last one's a grey scarf that I don't have anymore. This is just a very simple garter-stitch-only mat for my cat. It's dark green (again, it was supposed to be his Christmas gift). I definitely have regrets about it: I thought I made it too wide, and I did - I'm terrible at estimating, so I actually measured, but still very off. However, I actually kind of like how it's hanging over the window sill. It is too short for the window sill, it's very messy, and it's not Christmas anymore. I'm still so thrilled about finishing it! It reminds me why I loved crafting and should do more of it. Thinking of doing the finger-knit blanket next.
Oh, remember that tiramisu that I didn't get to have for my birthday dinner? I mentioned it to a friend, and she got a platter of it for me! Visited a new place, got a new haircut (bangs!), did a photoshoot, tried some new restaurants, watched a Broadway show - March was so kind to me.
Yours truly :)
